Back in Town

I arrived a couple of hours ago from Nevada City where the last project took place and I have a lot of energetic and good vibes. I start to be addicted to the bad ass work I've been doing lately, time is going to damn' fast. Last project was a piece of cake, we had showers, dvd player and a spectacular river nearby. Work was a little light and boring but I found ways to make it more interesting (I lumberjacked big trees using a polaski and it's muuuch better than going to the gym...).
I've waited so bad to com back to Santa Cruz that waiting one more day for what I need seems so long. Let's see what around next corner. It's kind of scary though.

Saluts!

Hey Godfather,

Sometimes when I'm stuck in an airport or otherwise incapable of accomplishing genuinely productive work I like to google ACE to see what comes up. Blogs by current volunteers are my favorite discover, like mining for rubies on the web. Most of what I understand about what it's really like to be a volunteer comes from my little mining expeditions on the web. Fortunately it wasn't too difficult to figure out who the Godfather is. With a limited number of Italians who went to Chiricahuas, Coronado, and Nevada City, it wasn't hard to piece it together. I enjoyed your post. I like to see the phases people go through. Nothing with ACE will go exactly as planned. Projects will fall through, particularly in the beginning of the CA program, and we will scramble and adapt. But the biggest thing I hope volunteers take from the program is the knowledge that everything in life can be exactly what you make of it. At first your mood was shrouded in gloom and indignation about going to AZ for projects. Then you seem to have come to find the joy in the work whichever state it happened to take place in. Mission accomplished. Bear with us in the coming weeks. We have our first Yosemite project of the year starting August 20, unfortunately right after you leave. Until then we'll keep kind of scrapping together projects in a quilt of improvisation. Remember that the first CA crew will become legend in ACE, so choose your legacy carefully.

Take care - Papa Baker

What a nice surprise!!!

Dear Baker,
it was mainly talking to you coming back from Vegas that made things clearer for me about ACE and the main idea that's behind it.
I should be really thankful for that huge drive because if I didn't have to do it, I wouldn't be able to enjoy what I'm doing so much now.
Sideways...
